SUMMARY:Training on Climate-Resilient Sanitation Safety Planning
DESCRIPTION:About the Training\nSanitation efforts in developing countries often prioritize building toilets (hardware) over public health outcomes. A more comprehensive approach is needed\, integrating public health considerations into sanitation planning and infrastructure development. Sanitation Safety Planning (SSP) is a risk management tool for sanitation. It gathers stakeholders from various sectors to identify health risks throughout the sanitation system. Together\, they agree on improvements and monitor progress. This ensures control measures target the biggest risks\, leading to gradual improvements over time. Climate-resilient Sanitation Safety Planning (CR-SSP) is a process that helps communities improve their sanitation systems in a way that can withstand the effects of climate change. Climate change can increase the risk of flooding\, droughts\, and other extreme weather events\, which can damage sanitation systems and lead to the spread of disease. CR-SSP helps communities identify these risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. ITN-BUET is going to organize a three-day training program on ‘Climate-resilient Sanitation Safety Planning (CR-SSP)’ for safely managed sanitation systems. This three-day training program will emphasize the crucial link between understanding health risks and effective sanitation management and investment. It aligns with WHO’s 2022 and 2018 guidelines\, emphasizing risk-based management for sanitation systems. \nObjectives\nThe program aims to establish a pool of national and international sanitation players who have in-depth understanding of SSP’s key concepts and principles. In line with this objective\, the program will:• Help develop an understanding about the SSP process• Help build an understanding of the procedure for risk assessment and management in line with WHO guidelines on sanitation and health\, covering all steps of the sanitation chain\, with or without safe end use• Help gain an understanding about preparing SSP using step-by-step guidance• Experience practical application of SSP through exposure visit \nWho Should Attend?\nThis course welcomes enrollment from a wide range of participants working in sanitation\, public health\, environmental improvement\, researchers\, etc. \nCourse Fee (Including Training Kits\, Food and Field Visit)\nNational Participants: BDT 20\,000International Participants: USD 500 (With full accommodation) \n*Course Fee Included Training Kits\, Food and Field Visit**Upon successful completion of the training program\, participants will be granted a one-year complimentary membership to the International Water Association (IWA). \nApplication Deadline: \n30th October 2024 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View Flyer\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Apply Now\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n For further information\, please contact:\nSubrata PaulTraining SpecialistITN-BUETEmail: subrata@itn-buet.orgPhone: +8809606667700 Ext.- 5082

SUMMARY:International training and exposure visit on Urban Rainwater Harvesting System
DESCRIPTION:Why Rainwater Harvesting?\nRainwater harvesting system (RWHS) provides a cost-effective and practical nature-based solution to address the emerging water crisis due to climate change and rapid population growth in urban context. Bangladesh National Water Policy 1999 recognises rainwater as the third source of water. In urban areas\, rainwater can be used for flushing toilets\, watering gardens\, washing cars and floors\, and other non-potable purposes\, thereby reducing dependency on existing water supply sources. At the same time\, rainwater harvesting can reduce the pressure on urban drainage system and avoid urban water-logging. Moreover\, with the increasing industrial water demand\, it can be an alternative water source. To meet international buyers’ compliance requirements and maintain factory standards\, RMG factories are also encouraged to install RWHS in their premises\, which can be used for industrial production and groundwater recharge. \nMany initiatives and programmes have recently been promoting rainwater harvesting systems in urban and industrial buildings. Incorporating rainwater management as a separate chapter in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2020 emphasises its significance. \nPractitioners\, planners\, academicians\, industrialists\, students\, researchers\, and policymakers working on water and environmental issues need to be sensitised and capacitated on rainwater harvesting systems to tackle the water crisis and ensure future water security. In this regard\, WaterAid Bangladesh in collaboration with International Training Network Centre\, BUET (ITN-BUET) and International Water Association (IWA) is organising the international training and exposure visit 2024 on urban rainwater harvesting system. \nLearning Objective\nThe participants will get the opportunity to learn from national and international technical experts\, academicians and professionals who have experience in implementing RWHS. The participants shall have exposure to and a better understanding of: \n\nUrban water challenges and importance of rainwater harvesting.\nPlanning and designing of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge system\nWater safety plan and LEED certification\nPrinciples of rainwater harvesting and its components\nSimplified cost-benefit analysis of rainwater harvesting\nPractical rainwater harvesting focusing on water retain\, reuse\, and recharge\n\nApplication Deadline\n14 February 2024 \nDate and Venue\nDate: 02-05 March 2024Mode: ResidentialLanguage: EnglishVenue: Dream Square Resort\, Gazipur and ITN-BUET\, Dhaka\, Bangladesh. \nTraining Fees\nNational Participants: 35\,000 BDT*The training fee stated above is inclusive of training registration fee (3000 BDT)\, which is compulsory to pay by the selected applicants irrespective of partial or full fellowship. \nInternational Participants: N/ASelected applicants from foreign countries will be automatically eligible for full fellowship. SUMMARY:International training and exposure visit on Rainwater Harvesting System
Moreover\, with the increasing industrial water demand\, it can be an alternate water source. To meet international buyers’ compliance requirements and maintain factory standards\, RMG factories are encouraged to install RWHS in their premises\, and the water can be used for industrial production and groundwater recharge. In this regard\, International Training Network Centre\, BUET (ITN-BUET) in collaboration with WaterAid Bangladesh and International Water Association (IWA) Bangladesh are organising the international training and exposure visit 2022 on urban rainwater harvesting system. \nLearning Objective\nThe participants will get the opportunity to learn from national and international technical experts\, academicians and professionals who have experience in implementing RWHS. The participants shall have exposure to and a better understanding of: \n\nUrban water challenges and importance of rainwater harvesting.\nPlanning and designing of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge system\nWater safety plan and LEED certification\nPrinciples of rainwater harvesting and its components\nSimplified cost-benefit analysis of rainwater harvesting\nPractical rainwater harvesting focusing on water retain\, reuse\, and recharge\n\n  \nFellowships available\nWe are offering partial and full fellowships for this international training and exposure visit 2022 on urban rainwater harvesting system to a limited number of deserving candidates. SUMMARY:Training Material Contextualization
DESCRIPTION:Production and contextualization of digital materials \nEawag\, the Swiss water research institute and an internationally networked institution organized a four-days long workshop on “production and contextualization of digital materials” at ITN-BUET from 21-24 July 2019 to introduce the process of contextualization for ConCaD-training materials. During the workshop\, participants materialized the idea of contextualization and digitization of training materials with special focus on FSM and inclusive sanitation\, hands on experience of photography and videography\, and building promotional materials for offering training for future capacity building programs on FSM. \n \nContextualize the content suitable for Bangladeshi practitioner \nThis workshop is a follow up event of a ToT organized in July this year with support from Eawag/ConCaD where experts and professionals in the sector received training on FSM/CWIS. One of the major feedbacks of the ToT was to contextualize the core content of the ToT suitable for Bangladeshi practitioner. \n● Photography \n● Videography \n● Building promotional materials for offering training for future
