SUMMARY:International training and exposure visit on Rainwater Harvesting System
DESCRIPTION:Why Rainwater Harvesting?\nRainwater harvesting system (RWHS) provides a cost-effective and practical nature-based solution to address the emerging water crisis due to climate change and rapid population growth in urban context. Bangladesh National Water Policy 1999 recognises rainwater as the third source of water. In urban areas\, rainwater can be used for flushing toilets\, watering gardens\, washing cars and floors\, and other non-potable purposes\, thereby reducing dependency on existing water supply sources. At the same time\, rainwater harvesting can reduce the pressure on urban drainage system and avoid urban water-logging. Moreover\, with the increasing industrial water demand\, it can be an alternate water source. To meet international buyers’ compliance requirements and maintain factory standards\, RMG factories are encouraged to install RWHS in their premises\, and the water can be used for industrial production and groundwater recharge. \nMany initiatives and programmes have recently been promoting rainwater harvesting systems in urban and industrial buildings. Incorporating rainwater management as a separate chapter in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2020 emphasises its significance. \nPractitioners\, planners\, academicians\, industrialists\, students\, researchers\, and policymakers working on water and environmental issues need to be sensitised and capacitated on rainwater harvesting systems to tackle the water crisis and ensure future water security.  In this regard\, International Training Network Centre\, BUET (ITN-BUET) in collaboration with WaterAid Bangladesh and International Water Association (IWA) Bangladesh are organising the international training and exposure visit 2022 on urban rainwater harvesting system. \nLearning Objective\nThe participants will get the opportunity to learn from national and international technical experts\, academicians and professionals who have experience in implementing RWHS. The participants shall have exposure to and a better understanding of: \n\nUrban water challenges and importance of rainwater harvesting.\nPlanning and designing of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge system\nWater safety plan and LEED certification\nPrinciples of rainwater harvesting and its components\nSimplified cost-benefit analysis of rainwater harvesting\nPractical rainwater harvesting focusing on water retain\, reuse\, and recharge\n\n  \nFellowships available\nWe are offering partial and full fellowships for this international training and exposure visit 2022 on urban rainwater harvesting system to a limited number of deserving candidates. Those who are funded by UN agencies or other international agencies will not be eligible for this fellowship. \n*Female and young professionals are encouraged to apply \nApplication deadline\n26 November 2022 \nDate and location\n11-14 December 2022 at International Training Network Centre\, BUET (ITN-BUET) \nFees and funding\nBDT 18\,000/- for Bangladeshi citizens\, and US $150 for international participants. A limited number of fellowships are available for this training programme. The training fee is inclusive of a training participation fee of BDT 3\,000 or 25 USD\, which is compulsory to be paid by the selected participants irrespective of partial or full fellowship. \nWho can apply?\nEngineers\, architects\, environmentalists\, industrialists\, urban planners\, academicians\, policymakers and development practitioners from relevant field. \n* Female and young professionals are encouraged to apply. \nEducational requirement\nApplicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree or diploma as a minimum criterion. \nView/ Download the FlyerApply here \nFor further information\, please contact:\nMr Rakib Uddin Ahmed\nSenior Information & Documentation Officer\nITN-BUET\nCell: +88016 720 730 70\nEmail: rakib@itn-buet.org\nOr\nMs Samia Anwar Rafa\nYoung Professional-Technical\nWaterAid Bangladesh\nEmail: samiarafa@wateraid.org

SUMMARY:International online training on Rainwater Harvesting System
DESCRIPTION:Why rainwater harvesting? \nRainwater harvesting provides a cost-effective and practical solution to reduce water crisis in both rural and urban contexts. In urban areas\, at a household level\, rainwater can be used for flushing toilets\, watering gardens\, washing floors\, and other non-potable purposes\, thereby reducing dependency on existing water supply sources such as groundwater. By managing rainwater\, the pressure on urban drainage systems could be reduced\, and urban water-logging could be avoided. It can provide an alternate water source to industries and business needs\, as well. \nPractitioners\, planners\, academicians\, industrialists\, students\, researchers\, and policymakers working on water and environmental issues need to be sensitised and capacitated on rainwater harvesting systems to tackle the water crisis and ensure future water security. \nMany initiatives and programmes have recently been promoting rainwater harvesting systems in urban and industrial buildings. Incorporating rainwater management as a separate chapter in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2020 emphasises its significance. In this regard\, International Training Network Centre\, BUET (ITN-BUET) and WaterAid Bangladesh are organising the International Online Training on Rainwater Harvesting System. \nLearning Objective \nThe participants will get the opportunity to learn from the experiences of technical experts\, academicians and professionals from Bangladesh and abroad who have experience in implementing the program. The participants shall have exposure to and a better understanding of: \n\nUrban and industrial water challenges and importance of rainwater harvesting.\nPrinciples of rainwater harvesting and its components.\nPlanning\, designing\, construction\, maintenance and monitoring of rainwater harvesting systems and Groundwater recharge structures.\nSimplified cost-benefit analysis approach for rainwater harvesting.\nWater safety plan and LEED certification for rainwater harvesting system.\nRainwater harvesting focusing on water re-use in industrial settings\n\nDate and location \nThe training will be held from 2-to-22 November 2021 and organised online (24-hour course). \nFees and funding \nBDT 10\,000/- for Bangladeshi citizens\, and US $120 for international participants. Limited funded fellowships are available for this programme. The training fee is inclusive of a training participation fee of BDT 3\,000/- or US $35 USD\, which is compulsory to pay by the selected participants irrespective of partial or full waiver. \nWho can apply? \nEngineers\, architects\, environmentalists\, industrialists\, urban planners\, academicians\, policymakers\, and development practitioners. \nEducational requirement \nApplicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree or diploma as a minimum criteria. \nApplication deadline25 October 2021 \nFunded fellowships available \nWe are offering full or partial funded fellowships for the ‘International Training and Exposure Visit on Rainwater Harvesting System’ to a limited number of deserving candidates with a strong application narrative. SUMMARY:Training Material Contextualization
DESCRIPTION:Production and contextualization of digital materials \nEawag\, the Swiss water research institute and an internationally networked institution organized a four-days long workshop on “production and contextualization of digital materials” at ITN-BUET from 21-24 July 2019 to introduce the process of contextualization for ConCaD-training materials. During the workshop\, participants materialized the idea of contextualization and digitization of training materials with special focus on FSM and inclusive sanitation\, hands on experience of photography and videography\, and building promotional materials for offering training for future capacity building programs on FSM. \n \nContextualize the content suitable for Bangladeshi practitioner \nThis workshop is a follow up event of a ToT organized in July this year with support from Eawag/ConCaD where experts and professionals in the sector received training on FSM/CWIS. One of the major feedbacks of the ToT was to contextualize the core content of the ToT suitable for Bangladeshi practitioner. \n● Photography \n● Videography \n● Building promotional materials for offering training for future
