Climate-resilient Sanitation Safety Planning (CR-SSP) is a process that helps communities improve their sanitation systems in a way that can withstand the effects of climate change. Climate change can increase the risk of flooding\, droughts\, and other extreme weather events\, which can damage sanitation systems and lead to the spread of disease. CR-SSP helps communities identify these risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Bangladesh National Water Policy 1999 recognises rainwater as the third source of water. In urban areas\, rainwater can be used for flushing toilets\, watering gardens\, washing cars and floors\, and other non-potable purposes\, thereby reducing dependency on existing water supply sources. At the same time\, rainwater harvesting can reduce the pressure on urban drainage system and avoid urban water-logging. Moreover\, with the increasing industrial water demand\, it can be an alternative water source. To meet international buyers’ compliance requirements and maintain factory standards\, RMG factories are also encouraged to install RWHS in their premises\, which can be used for industrial production and groundwater recharge. \nMany initiatives and programmes have recently been promoting rainwater harvesting systems in urban and industrial buildings. Climate change is exacerbating both slow (sea-level rise\, temperature rise)\, medium (drought occurrence\, changing rainfall patterns)\, and fast onset (storms including cyclones\, storm surges\, riverine-\, coastal\, and flash floods) hazards and their knock-on effects (e.g.\, erosion\, landslides). \nBangladesh has made commendable progress in the Water\, Sanitation\, and Hygiene (WASH) sector\, recognizing its significance for sustainable development and public health. However\, the country faces significant challenges due to the adverse effects of climate change towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 – ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. \nThe linkage between Water\, Sanitation\, and Hygiene (WASH) and climate change is undeniable. Climate change impacts the availability\, quality\, and distribution of water resources\, which in turn directly affects WASH services and practices. Rising temperatures\, changing rainfall patterns\, and increased frequency of extreme weather events such as droughts and floods all contribute to water scarcity\, reduced water quality\, and compromised sanitation systems. The country’s geographical location next to the Bay of Bengal\, low-lying terrain\, monsoons\, and significant rivers render the country more vulnerable to natural hazards. From 1970-2019\, storms were the most frequent disaster to affect Bangladesh at 52%\, followed by floods at 31%\, with the remaining disasters being epidemics\, earthquakes\, droughts\, and landslides. Additionally\, climate change exacerbates existing challenges faced by vulnerable communities\, including limited access to safe drinking water\, sanitation facilities\, and proper hygiene practices. This affects marginalized and vulnerable groups disproportionately\, like communities in saline-prone coastal areas\, in drought-prone areas\, or in the hill tracks. \nClimate resilient development involves measures and activities that will deliver benefits under all potential future climate scenarios and can cope with uncertainties over future conditions. The learning on the concept itself along with the experiences across the region for the implementation of the CWIS approach is a great initiative to expand the knowledge on CWIS. With the frequent updates on the topic\, sanitation professionals are also required to be updated on such new ideas like CWIS. \nAn orientation/sensitization training has been planned by FANSA Regional Secretariat for its FNASA member countries to make them understand and aware on the CWIS principles and approach so that they could work within their countries for promoting CWIS for achieving inclusive\, equitable and safely managed sanitation services. At the same time\, rainwater harvesting can reduce the pressure on urban drainage system and avoid urban water-logging. Moreover\, with the increasing industrial water demand\, it can be an alternate water source. To meet international buyers’ compliance requirements and maintain factory standards\, RMG factories are encouraged to install RWHS in their premises\, and the water can be used for industrial production and groundwater recharge. \nMany initiatives and programmes have recently been promoting rainwater harvesting systems in urban and industrial buildings. Incorporating rainwater management as a separate chapter in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2020 emphasises its significance. \nPractitioners\, planners\, academicians\, industrialists\, students\, researchers\, and policymakers working on water and environmental issues need to be sensitised and capacitated on rainwater harvesting systems to tackle the water crisis and ensure future water security.  In this regard\, International Training Network Centre\, BUET (ITN-BUET) in collaboration with WaterAid Bangladesh and International Water Association (IWA) Bangladesh are organising the international training and exposure visit 2022 on urban rainwater harvesting system. \nLearning Objective\nThe participants will get the opportunity to learn from national and international technical experts\, academicians and professionals who have experience in implementing RWHS.
