SUMMARY:Integrity and Regulation in Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS)
DESCRIPTION:About the Training\nThe online course ‘Integrity and Regulation in Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS)’ addresses important issues in sanitation services\, focusing on integrity\, regulatory frameworks\, and social inclusion. The course is a collaborative effort among the Water Integrity Network (WIN)\, ITN-BUET\, and ESAWAS. Sanitation plays a vital role in safeguarding public health and ensuring environmental sustainability\, yet many regions struggle to provide equitable and effective services. These challenges are often compounded by integrity risks\, regulatory gaps\, and social inequalities. This course is designed to help participants navigate these complexities by introducing key concepts such as Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS)\, integrity in regulation\, and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI). Participants will gain valuable insights into how governance\, ethics\, and inclusive strategies can improve sanitation services\, reduce risks\, and ensure equitable access for all. \nObjectives\nBy the end of the course\, participants will have a clear understanding of how integrity supports the implementation of CWIS projects and how robust regulatory frameworks can ensure inclusive\, equitable sanitation\, fulfilling the human right to sanitation. The major objectives of the course are as follows: \n\nUnderstand the basic concepts of integrity\, regulation\, and CWIS\nAnalyze how integrity helps to achieve better regulation in CWIS programs\nEquip sanitation professionals to better understand and respond to integrity risks along the sanitation value chain\nExamine how transparency\, accountability\, participation\, and anti-corruption play out in practice through case studies from different parts of the world.\n\nContents and Course Structure\nThis course is organized into four modules\, each offering a comprehensive learning experience through a blend of mandatory readings\, supplementary resources\, and interactive activities. The content includes videos\, animations\, presentations\, readings\, and case study documentation to enhance understanding. Participants are encouraged to engage actively by sharing their experiences\, asking questions\, and participating in vibrant forum discussions for each module. \nCourse Module\nThe course is structured as follows: \n\nModule 1: Basic Concepts – Integrity and CWIS Introduction to key principles of Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) and the role of integrity in ensuring effective\, transparent\, and equitable sanitation services.\nModule 2: Regulation in CWIS– Exploration of regulatory frameworks that support the implementation of CWIS\, with a focus on ensuring accountability\, transparency\, and inclusive practices.\nModule 3: Integrity Risks Along the Sanitation Value Chain– Examination of potential integrity risks throughout the sanitation value chain\, with guidance on identifying and mitigating these risks to improve governance and service delivery.\nModule 4: Strengthening Integrity– Strategies for enhancing integrity within sanitation systems\, including the use of integrity mechanisms to foster ethical practices\, strengthen governance\, and promote social inclusion.\n\nTo progress through the course\, participants need to complete quizzes or respond to multiple-choice questions at the end of each module. SUMMARY:🚰 City-San Connect | Quarterly Learning Webinar Series 🌍
DESCRIPTION:About City-San Connect\nCity-San Connect is a new quarterly webinar series launched by ITN-BUET under the SaniRepo platform. It is designed to foster cross-city learning and collaboration\, bringing together local governments\, sector professionals\, development partners\, and researchers to discuss real challenges and practical solutions in urban sanitation. \nEvery session highlights a key theme\, combining expert presentations\, city case studies\, and open discussions. The webinars are hosted in partnership with national and international collaborators and are open to participants across the region and beyond. \nWhy Climate-Resilient WASH Matters\nClimate change is no longer a distant threat—it is a present challenge for urban sanitation. Cities are increasingly exposed to rising temperatures\, intense rainfall\, waterlogging\, and other climate-related shocks that disrupt sanitation systems across the chain—from household containment to treatment and safe reuse. \nAs we pursue SDG 6—universal access to safe water and sanitation\, there is an urgent need to design systems that are not only inclusive and sustainable\, but also climate-resilient. This calls for an adaptive mindset and innovative technologies that can withstand stress\, ensure continuity of service\, and protect vulnerable populations. \nThis is why the focus on climate-resilient WASH is so important. We need to rethink how our sanitation systems are planned\, built\, and managed so they can adapt to changing weather\, protect people’s health\, and serve communities better even in crisis. \nThis Session’s Focus: Climate Resilient WASH\nThe upcoming session on August 26\, 2025\, will explore how cities are applying technology and innovative approaches to make sanitation systems more resilient to climate impacts. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nHow climate change is affecting sanitation systems—both infrastructure and service delivery\nWhat technological solutions (e.g. modular STPs\, container-based sanitation\, nature-based systems\, sensor-driven monitoring) cities are piloting or scaling up\nHow planning tools and decision-support models are helping cities adapt to extreme climate events\nWhat city-level strategies\, governance practices\, and financing approaches are enabling climate-smart sanitation\nInsights from Bangladeshi cities and international experiences on building adaptive and inclusive systems\n\nThis 90-minute virtual session will include presentations from national and international experts\, followed by interactive discussion and Q&A. \nWhy Join?\nCity-San Connect is more than just a webinar—it’s a platform for connecting cities through shared learning.
