SUMMARY:Training on Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM)
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE TRAINING \nRapid urbanization\, population growth and changing consumption patterns have significantly increased the volume and diversity of municipal solid waste (MSW) across Bangladesh. While the effective management of MSW is crucial for protection of public health and environment\, challenges are emerging due to the growing complexity of waste streams including plastics\, e-waste\, medical and hazardous waste. Addressing these challenges requires a holistic and sustainable approach to waste management that goes beyond basic collection and disposal. This training on Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) aims to enhance the knowledge and technical capacity of participants by exploring key aspects of MSWM\, including policy\, planning\, technology\, stakeholder engagement and resource-efficient practices. \nLEARNING OUTCOMES: \nBy the end of the training\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the current scenario\, challenges and emerging trends of MSWM\nStrengthen technical knowledge on innovative solutions for planning and management of MSW\nLearn to apply circular economy principles across the MSWM value chain.\nDevelop strategies for behavior change and community engagement to promote environmentally safe and inclusive waste management.\n\nTOPICS COVERED: \n\nIntroduction & Context: Global\, national and local perspectives on MSWM.\nWaste Handling & Disposal: Waste characterization\, efficient collection\, transport\, disposal and resource recovery strategies.\nSpecialized Waste Management: Planning and management of bio-degradable\, plastics\, hazardous\, medical and e-waste.\nSocio-economic dynamics: Integration of informal sectors\, stakeholder engagement\, community awareness and sustainable financing mechanisms.\nStrategic Planning & Sustainability: Linkage of MSWM with climate change\, circular economy\, SDGs and strategic planning for integrated waste management.\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND: \n\nGovernment officials from relevant departments (DPHE\, LGED\, DoE\, etc.)\nCity level Officials engaged in MSWM\nUrban Planners\, Engineers\, Environmental Professionals\, Donor Agency and I/NGO practitioners\nAcademica\, researchers and consultants working in the urban waste sector\nPrivate sector and utility service providers involved in MSWM\n\nCOURSE REQUIREMENTS: \n\nBasic knowledge of municipal solid waste management\nInterest in sustainable solid waste management practices and urban environmental solutions\n\nWHY JOIN THIS COURSE: \n\nExpert-led sessions with practical insights\nReal-world lessons from experienced practitioners\nHands-on exercises for city-specific SWM planning\nField-based practical demonstrations\nOpportunity to network and exchange knowledge with peers\n\nPARTICIPATION DETAILS: \n\nDuration: 3 Days (In-person)\nLanguage: Bangla & English (Bilingual delivery)\nMaterials: Participants will be provided with lesson handouts\nCertificate: Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion\n\nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: \n\n28 October 2025\n\nCOURSE FEE: \n\n16\,000 BDT (EARLY BIRDS APPLY BY 20 OCT 2025)\n20\,000 BDT National participants\n\nRESOURCE PERSONS: \n\nProf. Dr. Md.
