Despite the regulatory requirements for city corporations to prepare annual plans and reports, implementation remains constrained due to institutional and technical capacity gaps.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://itn.buet.ac.bd/web/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Strengthening-Urban-Resilience-ITN-BUET-and-SNV-Support-Cumilla-City-Corporation-in-Developing-Effective-Waste-Management-Plans-1.jpg” title_text=”Strengthening Urban Resilience-ITN-BUET and SNV Support Cumilla City Corporation in Developing Effective Waste Management Plans 1″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://itn.buet.ac.bd/web/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Strengthening-Urban-Resilience-ITN-BUET-and-SNV-Support-Cumilla-City-Corporation-in-Developing-Effective-Waste-Management-Plans-2.jpg” title_text=”Strengthening Urban Resilience-ITN-BUET and SNV Support Cumilla City Corporation in Developing Effective Waste Management Plans 2″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

A total of 34 participants attended the first day of the workshop, including representatives from various departments of CCC. The session also brought together stakeholders from range of organizations, including the Cumilla Waste Management Association, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Janala Bangladesh, Cumilla Urban Services Coordination Improvement Committee (CUSCIC), Urban Development and City Governance Project (UDCGP), Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), the Department of Environment (DoE), as well as members of the local entrepreneurs and business community. The second day was attended by 18 participants, primarily from different sections of the CCC.

The workshop followed a participatory approach, combining technical presentations, group work, and interactive exercises. The first day focused on reviewing the current solid waste management scenario in CCC, relevant national policies, and the application of the 7R principles. Participants identified local challenges and good practices, and developed a shared vision, SMART targets, and strategic priorities through stakeholder analysis.

On the second day, participants translated strategies into detailed action plans, outlining specific activities, assigned responsibilities, implementation timelines, and indicative budgets. She noted that waste disposal sites should be considered as resources with potential for alternative and productive uses, rather than merely as unused land. Ms. Patricia Solorzano, Senior Project Manager of SNV, expressed her appreciation for the active participation of all participants and underscored the importance of applying the knowledge gained to improve solid waste management practices in CCC.

Participants appreciated the hands-on and participatory nature of the workshop, noting that it enhanced their understanding of structured planning processes and practical application of SWM strategies. The group-based exercises and real-world focus helped build confidence in developing actionable and compliant waste management plans.

The workshop concluded with a set of agreed next steps and a shared commitment among participants to advance sustainable and efficient solid waste management planning and implementation in Cumilla City Corporation.

In conclusion, the workshop marks an important step towards developing a smart and sustainable waste management system in Cumilla. By strengthening institutional capacity and promoting practical, data-driven planning approaches, it supports the city’s ongoing efforts to transition towards a cleaner, greener, and more resilient urban future.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

ITN-BUET, in collaboration with SNV Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), organized a two-day participatory workshop titled “Development of Solid Waste Management Plan for Cumilla City Corporation (CCC)” on 28–29 April 2026 at Buro Bangladesh, Cumilla.

["post-10645","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
