ITN-BUET successfully organized a four-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Climate Resilient Water Safety Plan (CR-WSP) from May 25 to 28, 2025, at its Seminar Room in Dhaka. The program aimed to build the capacity of sector professionals including engineers, program managers and environmental advisors in integrating climate resilience into water safety planning in water supply systems. A total of 11 participants (8 male and 3 female) attended the training program.<\/p>\n

Mr. Maharam Dakua, Consultant at ITN-BUET, facilitated the training through interactive lectures, group activities, and practical fieldwork at the BUET campus water supply system to ensure hands-on learning. The introductory session was led by Mr. Alauddin Ahmed, Project Manager at ITN-BUET, while Mr. Subrata Paul, Training Specialist at ITN-BUET, coordinated the overall program. The training helped participants to gain essential knowledge on identifying and assessing climate-related hazards, risk management and monitoring plans in water supply systems. In addition, the program helps enhance their capacity for continuous monitoring, review and improvement of CR-WSP implementation.<\/p>\n
Participants expressed their appreciation, emphasizing practicality of CR-WSP training. Ms. Rubayat Sobhan noted that the sessions were excellent and well-designed. From this training, I learned service-level monitoring, which is directly relevant to my work. While I had hoped for more insights on catchment-level monitoring of surface water systems, the overall experience and learning have been excellent. <\/p>\n

In the closing ceremony, Ms. Nargis Akter, National Professional Officer-WASH and Environment, World Health Organization graced the event as special guest stated \u201cAs the impact of climate change is directly related to water, every activity should be viewed through a climate lens. WSP is not just a management tool, but it is also a preventive approach to address upcoming risks in water supply systems\u201d. Professor Dr. Rowshan Mamtaz, Director of ITN-BUET, in her closing speech, congratulated all the participants for successfully completing the ToT. In addition, she thanked the facilitator, coordinator and other supporting staff for the well-organized event.<\/p>\n
This initiative is part of ITN-BUET\u2019s ongoing commitment to promoting climate-resilient practices in Bangladesh\u2019s water sector, contributing toward national and global sustainable development goals. The program was concluded with the certificate awarding ceremony.<\/p>\n
