With a population of 237,266 and 15% from low-income communities, ensuring safe sanitation for all was once a major challenge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udea8 The Problem<\/strong>\u00a0Open defecation, dirty latrines, and unsafe waste disposal were part of daily life. In 2014, open defecation stood at 6%. Today, it&#8217;s zero. \u2705<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udd27 Step-by-Step Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>Better Emptying Services<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Manual pit emptying was replaced first with semi-mechanical methods, then with Vacutug technology. When Vacutugs couldn&#8217;t reach narrow lanes, Faridpur built its own custom vehicle \u2014 named\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Gupta Dhan Service&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0\ud83d\udca1<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>Modern FSTP<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 A Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant now processes\u00a0<strong>24,000 litres of waste daily<\/strong>, turning treated sludge into eco-friendly organic fertiliser \ud83c\udf31<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>FSM Corner<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 A dedicated service desk where residents can book pit-emptying services. Subsidised rates ensure access for the poor.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>Plastic-to-Fuel<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Solid waste, including plastic, is being converted into fuel \u267b\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udc69 Women Leading the Change<\/strong>\u00a010 sanitation worker cooperatives exist in Faridpur \u2014 3 led by women. A\u00a0<strong>Compost Research &amp; Training Centre (CRTC)<\/strong>\u00a0trains workers on-site.
