The synthesis report, “Regulating Urban Sanitation to Prevent Integrity Failures,”<\/em> focuses on addressing integrity challenges in Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS). CWIS aims to meet the comprehensive sanitation needs of all city residents by integrating diverse systems (sewered and non-sewered) and providers (public, private, household, and informal vendors). However, integrity failures at the city level often impede service delivery, infrastructure upgrades, and gender equity, undermining public and household health.<\/p>\n The Water Integrity Network (WIN) collaborated with ESAWAS, DPHE (Bangladesh), ITN-BUET, and Aguaconsult to analyze these challenges and develop a methodology for assessing regulatory frameworks for sanitation with a focus on integrity. This methodology has been applied in Bangladesh, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia, forming the basis of this report.<\/p>\n The study emphasizes the role of regulators and regulatory mechanisms in preventing integrity failures and enhancing CWIS implementation.
