Training on Design, Construction and Improvement of Sanitation Containment Systems

ABOUT THE TRAINING

Toilets are widely available but the associated containments are often poorly designed and construced, leading to pollution of lakes, canal/water bodies, groundwater contamination, operational challenges for fecal sludge management (FSM) and increased public health risks. Addressing these issues this training on Design, Construction and Improvement of Sanitation Containment Systems aims to enhance knowledge and technical capacity of relevent stakeholders on key aspects of containment systems, including design standards, structural considerations, climate resilience and planning for upgradation that facilitate safe sanitation, protection of public health and environment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Understand the role of safe containment and identify common design and construction deficiencies.
• Strengthen technical knowledge on the design, construction and upgrading of containment systems.
• Learn to incorporate climate-resilience in containment design and construction.
• Develop strategies for containment improvements/upgradation.
