“The exemplary role of ITN-BUET in training should have a long-lasting impact in the sector”

-said Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BUET Professor Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder. On August 23, 2020 Prof. Majumder virtually met ITN-BUET team to discuss the Centre’s activities, functioning mechanism and future course of actions.

Professor Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Director, ITN-BUET introduced ITN-BUET officials with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and presented the journey of the Centre, its achievements and contribution to WASH sector. Apart from Director, Mr. Alauddin Ahmed, Project Manager of ITN-BUET highlighted the core attributes of the National level capacity building program on CWIS/FSM, currently being implemented by ITN-BUET with the funding support of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He emphasized on utilizing the networking opportunities being facilitated by the program and make ITN-BUET a regionally prominent Centre which will enhance the recognition of BUET globally.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor advised ITN-BUET team to put more effort on Research and Development on emerging issues such as water treatment, environmental pollution control focusing reduction of greenhouse gas emission, and conversion of waste into energy.  He suggested expanding the training activities of ITN-BUET to offer professional certification courses. He congratulated ITN-BUET for doing a great job with a small but efficient team. He assured ITN-BUET to extend his cooperation for enhancing the human resource base of the Centre.  He envisaged that ITN-BUET may become an institute of BUET in future, offer post-graduate diploma courses and further contribute to the capacity building in WASH sector in Bangladesh.

The meeting concluded with an encouraging note from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor:

I hope ITN-BUET will become a leading capacity building and training institute in the sector in the South-Asian region through generating evidence-based knowledge, enhancing capacities and strengthening collaboration with reputed institutions”.
