Recognizing the critical role of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in public health, particularly during emergencies, the Global Sanitation Graduate School Regional Hub for South and Southeast Asia (GSGS RH SSEA), in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia, organized the Integrated WASH (I-WASH) Summer Course 2025 on the theme “WASH in Emergency Settings.” The course was held from 12 July to 13 August 2025, combining online lectures with immersive field-based training in Indonesia.

The second session of Sani Talk Café, held on 12 August 2025, brought together over 70 participants from government agencies, municipalities, NGOs, academia, private sector operators, and international development partners, including Practical Action Bangladesh, BASA Foundation, ITN-BUET, DPHE, UNICEF Bangladesh, and SNV.

A four-member delegation from ITN-BUET embarked on a week-long visit to Nepal from 3–8 August 2025, aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in sanitation and hygiene, and fostering peer learning between mentor cities.

ITN-BUET organized a dissemination event on Saturday, 26 July 2025, showcasing its two pioneer research projects to explore the utilization of industrial by-products, such as medical waste incineration ash, sewage sludge ash, and coal fly ash, for compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB) and production of sustainable concrete using geopolymer artificial coarse aggregates.

A Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) has been signed between the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and ITN-BUET to establish an Online Learning Management System (OLMS) — a milestone initiative aimed at modernizing professional training and capacity building for DPHE officials.

The inaugural session of SaniTalk Cafe, a new monthly knowledge-sharing initiative under the SaniRepo platform, was successfully held on 15 July 2025, drawing participation from around 90 professionals across government agencies, NGOs, academia, development partners, and private sector organizations.

Effective operation of Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) is essentially important for securing safely managed sanitation in Bangladesh as most of the people in Bangladesh use onsite sanitation system and produce fecal sludge that requires proper treatment before disposal.

ITN-BUET proudly hosted a congratulatory event on Saturday, July 5, 2025, to honor Professor Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed, Founding Director of ITN-BUET, for receiving the prestigious National Environment Award 2024 (Jatio Poribesh Padak 2024) from the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
