The professionals working in WASH sector learned the recent impacts of Climate Change in WASH sector of Bangladesh particularly on Emergency context through a joint course of ITN-BUET and WASH Cluster Bangladesh.

The training on “Climate Change and WASH in Emergency” held during 11-12, March 2020 at ITN-BUET Seminar room, BUET, Dhaka. A total of 16 professionals from government organization (DPHE), development partner (Unicef) and I/NGOs participated in the training. Renowned experts in WASH sector in the country facilitated different sessions in the training.

The course covered the concept of Climate Change, Climate Change impacts on WASH, health, water quality etc. The occurrence of emergency due to climate change, different types of vulnerability and vulnerable groups face challenges during emergency and roles of WASH Cluster as well as preparedness and adaptive measures related to WASH to cope with the emergency were integral part of the course.

The training demonstrated different approaches taken by the stakeholder organizations before, during and after emergency and approaches for hygiene promotion and practice which is critical during emergency. The participants gave feedback at the end of the course and highlighted its importance with a request to replicate it some improvement.

The closing session guest, Engr. Md. Moniruzzaman, Ex-Chief Engineer, DPHE mentioned that throughout the carrier of every professional, training is essential for continuous skill development. While, Dr. A. B. M. Badruzzaman, Professor of BUET requested participants to make the oppourtunity of internship for outgoing engineering students to ensure sustainable supply of capable human resource in the sector. Finally, the training ended with handing over of certificate of completion of the course.
