The Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) refresher workshop for the officials of Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) emphasized the importance of collaborative and continuous efforts in achieving sustainable urban sanitation for all. This two-day workshop, conducted on June 12-13, 2023, brought together experts, municipal representatives, and stakeholders to discuss and update time-bound actions for the MCC. The workshop aimed to enhance sanitation practices and empower communities around CWIS outcomes and system functions.

Prof. Dr. Tanvir Ahmed delivered a comprehensive presentation on CWIS, its principles and frameworks, IRF-FSM, and the National Action Plan. His remarks highlighted the crucial role of sanitation in ensuring the well-being and quality of life for urban communities, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to implement effective sanitation measures citywide.

The workshop included interactive sessions, during which the MCC team presented actions focusing on ‘Equity’, ‘Safety’, ‘Sustainability’, ‘Responsibility’, ‘Accountability’ and ‘Resource Planning & Management’. Each presentation was followed by a review session and interactive discussions. A total number of sixteen participants from different sections of MCC, including conservancy, engineering, account section, and computer operations, took part in the workshop.

The attendees actively engaged in group work to update the respective action plans. The collaborative inputs and decision-making process aimed to ensure inclusivity and active involvement of all participants. The final session of the workshop facilitated the harmonization of all actions in a systematic way, following CWIS templates.

At the closing session of the workshop, participants highlighted the power of collective action and commitment towards sustainable urban sanitation. With renewed knowledge, strategies, and a shared vision, they pave the way for a cleaner, healthier, and more inclusive Mymensingh. A moment of recognition and appreciation unfolded as the participants were presented with certificates of completion by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ali, Chair of the Environmental Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering at BUET. Dr. Ashraf graciously expressed his gratitude to the participants, acknowledging their active engagement and valuable contributions throughout the program.
