The Institute of River, Harbor and Environmental Science (IRHES) at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET), in collaboration with the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) South and Southeast Asia Regional Hub, has announced admission for the Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip.) in WASH Management for the July 2026 session. This marks an important step in strengthening professional sanitation education in Bangladesh. The program details can be found here. The program will admit 10 students in its first year, offering professionals and graduates the opportunity to build advanced competencies in water, sanitation, and hygiene management.
Having been actively arranging short-course training programs over the years, IRHES takes a significant step ahead with the launch of this diploma program, reflecting the institute’s sustained commitment to capacity development in the WASH sector. Prof. Dr. Asiful Hoque, Director, IRHES, CUET, says, โThis PG Diploma in WASH Management is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and field-level sanitation challenges by equipping professionals and graduates with advanced skills, research exposure, and practical solutions for sustainable WASH service delivery.โ
The Post-Graduate Diploma Program at IRHES, CUET has successfully integrated the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) curriculum on City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) into its academic program. The GSGS curriculum has been designed to address the growing need for skilled professionals capable of responding to complex sanitation challenges in rapidly urbanizing regions. Through the adoption of GSGS CWIS curriculum, the program will enable students to gain enhanced knowledge and practical understanding of inclusive sanitation planning, governance, service delivery, resource recovery, and sustainable urban sanitation systems.
In this context, it is noteworthy that ITN-BUET has played an active role in supporting the updating and contextualization of the GSGS CWIS curriculum for Bangladesh and the South and Southeast Asia region. In collaboration with GSGS RH SSEA, ITN-BUET jointly organised a regional curriculum validation workshop in Dhaka, which contributed to refining the curriculum content, aligning it with local and regional needs, and ensuring its practical relevance for implementation. This complementary effort highlights the growing collaboration among national and regional institutions to strengthen sanitation education and professional capacity in the WASH sector.
The GSGS RH SSEA congratulates CUET on this initiative and looks forward to continued collaboration to strengthen sanitation education and capacity development throughout the region.
