Bangladesh is turning the tide in urban water management, showcasing innovation and inclusion at the 2nd Sustainable Water Management EXPO – 2025, held from 16–18 October 2025 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Water Works Association (BWWA) in association with ITN-BUET and other sector partners. The Expo opened with Mr. Md. Shahjahan Miah (Dhaka WASA) as Chief Guest, joined by sector leaders, setting an inspiring tone for the three-day event.

Throughout the three-day event, ITN-BUET hosted a vibrant and engaging stall, displaying its research publications, technical manuals, and educational resources. Over 200 copies of its knowledge products were distributed among students, engineers, specialists, and professionals. Visitors interacted with the ITN-BUET team to learn about ongoing projects, innovations, and institutional achievements.

On 16 October, ITN-BUET organized a technical session titled “Innovation to Inclusion: Technologies Transforming Urban WASH.” The session emphasized linking innovation with inclusive design, local adaptation, and policy integration to ensure real-world impact.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Professor, United International University (UIU). The presentation was followed by a panel discussion with experts Ms. Dilruba Farzana (DPHE), Mr. S.M. Mostafa Kamal Mazumder (DWASA), Mr. Ziaul Karim Jewel (DAIKI AXIS), Mr. Syed Adnan Ibna Hakim (UNICEF), Mr. Alauddin Ahmed (ITN-BUET), and Mr. Abdullah Al Mamun (WSUP). Panellists discussed context-specific technologies, smart water management systems, public–private partnerships, capacity building, and inclusive WASH innovations. The session was moderated by Mr. Kazi Amin, Knowledge Management Specialist, ITN-BUET.

The closing ceremony on 18 October featured Mr. Abdus Salam Bapary (Dhaka WASA) as chief guest and Ms. Debra Boyce (High Commission of Canada), who commended the Expo for effectively bridging academia, industry, and policy. The Chief Guest emphasized the importance of turning challenges into opportunities and highlighted Bangladesh’s growing leadership in the water sector. The event concluded with recognition of sponsors and outstanding stalls, followed by a group photo session.

By uniting innovation, research, and practice, the 2nd Sustainable Water Management EXPO – 2025 reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to inclusive, efficient, and sustainable urban water management, inspiring collaboration across sectors and paving the way for smarter, climate-resilient water solutions.
