UNICEF and ITN-BUET visited Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) officials on 19th June, 2022 to discuss the prospects of promoting the CWIS approach for addressing the sanitation situation in the city. The Honorable Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, A.H.M. Khairuzzaman (Liton), hosted the team. Prof. Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Director, ITN-BUET presented the current sanitation situation of Rajshahi, the key findings of the City Service Delivery Assessment (CSDA) and the Action Framework to address the current gaps in sanitation services. Mr. Zaid Jurji, Senior Water and Sanitation Specialist, UNICEF also emphasized the need for an integrated approach and inclusion of private sector. Syed Adnan Ibne Hakim, WASH Officer, UNICEF highlighted the need for an inclusive process in addressing the sanitation agenda involving all relevant stakeholders. The Honorable Mayor acknowledged the study findings and expressed his commitment to address the actionable items in the Action Framework. The meeting was followed by a field visit to the low-income areas in RCC under Ward 24 to observe the existing sanitation practices and facilities.
