Bangladesh’s rapid urban population growth creates a significant challenge in effectively managing increased human waste due to higher population densities and expanding urban areas. This poses a considerable challenge that can impact national economies, affecting public health and overall quality of life. To tackle this challenge, ITN-BUET and sector partners are working together to mainstream the CWIS in government projects. ITN-BUET, in association with the CWIS-FSM Support Cell, Department of Public Health (DPHE), organized the ‘Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) Orientation for DPHE Officials’ working in 30 Paurashava Water Supply and Sanitation Project on 25 November 2023.
The workshop aimed to provide DPHE officials with a rigorous understanding of CWIS and its components, empowering them to effectively plan and manage safe sanitation services in urban areas. DPHE Executive Engineers representing 12 districts attended the orientation.
