Bangladesh faces a major challenge in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.2, which targets 100% safely managed sanitation for all by 2030. Unlike the MDG period, which mainly focused on access to toilets, the SDG framework emphasizes safely managed sanitation services.

In a major step towards advancing safely managed and inclusive sanitation in Bangladesh, the International Training Network Centre of BUET (ITN-BUET) and FINISH Mondial Bangladesh (FMBD) signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) on 7 January 2026

A Planning Workshop on the Implementation of the Capacity Building Component for the 10 Towns Project was jointly organized by ITN-BUET and the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Inclusive and Integrated Sanitation and Hygiene Project in 10 Priority Towns in Bangladesh, DPHE on 4 January 2026.

The International Water Association (IWA), in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), organized the 2025 IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition from 8–12 December 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together over 3,000 water professionals from more than 80 countries.

30 November 2025, the second session of City-San Connect, hosted by ITN-BUET under the SaniRepo platform, brought together nearly 45 participants from Bangladesh and abroad for a dynamic virtual dialogue on the theme “From Toilet Lost to Toilet Legacy: Building Systems That Last.”

Achieving SDG Target for Sanitation 6.2: 100% Safely Managed Sanitation for All by 2030 for Bangladesh requires 6 to 8 times acceleration to the current pace of yearly achievement for Sanitation.

ITN-BUET, in collaboration with the Water Integrity Network (WIN), organized a two-day workshop titled “Orientation on Integrity in Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS)” on 23–24 November 2025 at the ITN-BUET seminar room. The workshop aimed to enhance the understanding of integrity across the sanitation chain and strengthen accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness within the CWIS framework.

A four-day capacity enhancement workshop for Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) master trainers was jointly organized by ITN-BUET, WaterAid Bangladesh, and the CWIS-FSM Support Cell from 16 to 19 November 2025 at Dream Square, Gazipur.

The Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) continues to advance sanitation education by developing harmonized curricula, strengthening academic partners, and promoting regional knowledge exchange. Since 2018–19, GSGS has developed 10 Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS)-aligned modules, now adopted across 85 partner institutions, supporting 69 academic courses and benefiting more than 4,000 learners
