ITN Component Sector Program Support (SPS-I) Water Supply and Sanitation Sector (WSSS), Bangladesh

The primary objective of the project was to enhance the capacity of human resources in the sector. Capacity-building activities under this program included training packages on WSS, research works, curricula and syllabi development for graduate and diploma engineering courses, documentation and publications of relevant WSS materials, workshops, seminars, conferences, development of national and international linkages, information dissemination and development of capacity of ITN itself.

  • 395 sector professionals were trained on WSS through various specialized training courses
  • Four (4) training packages with modules on WSS were developed.
  • Three (3) research projects were conducted and completed.
  • Curricula for diploma engineering were reoriented; review of undergraduate engineering curricula was continuing
  • 13 workshops were organized in collaboration with partners
  • 5 proceedings were published
  • ITN led the development of the ‘National Sanitation Strategy 2005’ and supported the national sanitation campaign.
  • ITN website was developed and used for knowledge dissemination
