Given the growth of the urban population, delivering proper sanitation services for all is a challenge for sanitation sector stakeholders in Bangladesh. The Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), with ITN-BUET, organised a ‘Sanitation Workshop and Leadership Development Tour’ to cultivate leadership among the Engineers and officials of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and several Paurashavas.

Access to clean water has become a significant challenge in Bangladesh, especially in urban areas, because of excessive groundwater extraction and ineffective water management practices. ITN-BUET and WaterAid Bangladesh jointly organised an international training and exposure visit on the ‘Urban Rainwater Harvesting System’ in response to this issue.

Bangladesh FSM Network organised its 6th Convention in Dhaka at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh on 3rd March 2024. The focus was ensuring sanitation worker safety and dignity, improving work conditions, exploring financing options, and advancing the CWIS model for SDG target 6.2.

ITN-BUET organised a research dissemination and book launch event on 19 February 2024. The event showcased pioneering research projects exploring waste-to-wealth, recycling, and reusing processes for solid wastes from tannery industries and faecal sludge, employing sustainable and nature-based solutions.

To enhance the safety and well-being of sanitation and waste management workers in Bangladesh, ITN-BUET and SNV Bangladesh organised a comprehensive ‘Training of Trainers’ on 11-13 February 2024. The ToT equipped the city corporation and municipality officials with occupational health and safety knowledge.

ITN-BUET made its presence in the Global South Academic Conclave on WASH and Climate Linkages 2024. The conclave was organized by the Center for Water and Sanitation, CRDF, in collaboration with the Faculty of Planning, CEPT University, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

To develop a Regulatory Mechanism for Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) sector in Bangladesh, the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) and the International Training Network of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (ITN-BUET) organized a consultation workshop on 28 January 2024.

ITN-BUET attended the International Water Association Water and Development Congress and Exhibition 2023 held in Kigali, Rwanda.

During the 2023 IWA Water and Development Congress in Kigali, Rwanda, ITN-BUET and IWA formalized their partnership for sustainable development in water and sanitation through the signing of an MoU.

In collaboration with National Water Supply and Sanitation Training Center (NWSSTC) of Nepal and with technical support from ITN-BUET, Nepal’s Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) organized ‘Training of Trainers (ToT) on Citywide Inclusive Sanitation’ in Nagarkot of Nepal from 1 to 8 December 2023.
